Accomplishments – 17 Sept 09

Written by Rebecca Laffar-Smith on Sep 17 2009

Have you ever come to the end of a day and known there is just one last thing to do before bed but felt the tiredness washing over you tugging against your will to do as you know is best for you, to do as your integrity and sense of purpose would have you choose to do?

Today, I push against that resistance, reaffirming my commitment to personal growth and development. I keep this promise to myself, because I am worth it, it holds true to the values I want to instill in my life, and because in choosing to hold to this accountability I strengthen the muscles of my will and resolve which in turn makes it easier to stay the course next time I feel the temptation to waver.

Today, I:

  • Spent two hours dancing! I have a great time swing dancing but it can be difficult to convince myself to go because it is about an 1 hour to get there and then an hour home again. This is four hours of every Thursday evening, doing something I generally would not have chosen to do for myself, but something I know builds relationship with my sister and that I truly do feel uplifted and enlivened after doing.
  • Participated in Future-Tarot’s weekly chat. Had a great time talking with Mysti, Miss Michele, and PlaidEarthworm.
  • Co-read two Tarot readings with Miss Michele. One for Mysti and one for PlaidEarthworm. It was fulfilling to be able to help them both rediscover their passion, touch that aspect of themselves they had been letting fall dormant and reinspire them to push for their dreams. THIS is why Miss Michele and I do this!
  • Played Plant Tycoon, enjoying this game despite knowing it chews up a fair portion of my time.
  • Checked in on Plurk – Not too thrilled by the ‘conversation’ going on there at the moment but I suspect that is mostly because my interests and focuses are elsewhere, on grander things than the mundane of every day living.
  • Checked in and progressed on Evony. This game is again another time consumer and not particularly challenging. But I’m addicted, at least for the moment, and at least my towns are growing.
  • Received my new battery in the mail. Oh, pretty, black, fat new battery.
  • Checked to see if the photocopy aspect of my printer works even without the printer installed or even plugged into a computer. It does!
  • Gave extra loving attention to my baby boy. He’s been unwell each evening this week. It’s a strange kind of ailment where he seems fine in the morning, is NOT fine in the afternoon after school (tired, running hot, feeling cold). I’m going to keep a closer eye on him to see if I can track down a cause. Maybe I should check his blood sugar levels.
  • Encouraged and assisted my daughter with her math homework. She’s better at math than I am so to be honest she’s teaching me but I enjoy being able to reaffirm her enjoyment of the subject and her sense of worth and value in knowing all she knows and learning all she learns.
  • Spent time with my mother. Companionable, no pressure time.
  • Did extensive keyword research on two current projects. Still struggling to come up with an effective angle on one but I know it is there, I just need to dig a little deeper to find it.
  • Installed WordPress on an existing but inactive domain name.
  • Installed Themes and Plugins on this new WordPress, created a database, activated the site, created a new user account, activated plugins and themes and set some of the site settings.
  • Ensured Thursday’s WRA blog post launched as scheduled.
  • Spent time searching for and eventually finding a piece of paperwork I had been ‘keeping safe’ for my sister. *rolls eyes* Ever think you left it someplace only to discover you left it someplace else?
  • Listened to about two hours of “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” still loving this book. I MUST write a book review!
  • Got my business bookkeeping back under control after losing the past few months records while transitioning from one laptop to another. 3 months worth of income and expenses needed to be tracked and recorded. Thankfully, I keep those details close to hand and it was really just data entry. Still, lesson learned again, backup, backup, backup!
  • Spent some time examining my current situation. At the moment it is only in stage one planning, all in my head while I nail out exactly which direction I want my life to take, what my end-goal currently is, and how I can most effectively set about making that end-goal a reality.
  • Fought and won against the resistance that reared trying to convince me I didn’t need to do this tonight. Felt amazing for having followed through despite that resistance and, although still very tired and ready for bed, feeling very positive about all I accomplished today.
